This summer, join BrainBoost Director Matt Giammarino for our 4-week Math 12 with Matt course. Matt will make the course interesting, relevant, and do-able! For the first week, you’ll work with Math Teacher Extraordinaire Len Pelletier to refine your core skills. You’ll master trig basics, destroy quadratics, and understand functions. Over the following 3 weeks, Matt will take you through functions, logarithms, trigonometry and probability… and you’ll emerge having completed Math 12, while understanding it in a deep and meaningful way!
The course will be a hands-on, small class (14 students maximum) that caters to to a variety of learning styles. The course is suitable for students of all learning profiles.
If you’ve struggled with Math, but want to complete Math 12, this course is for you.
If you want to learn Math in an applied, hands-on way, this course is for you.If you want to take a Math class that will allow you to truly understand the math, this course is for you!
Students receive credit for the course by registering with an online school (Burnaby Online, or VLN).
The course costs $250/week for 4 weeks. A $250 deposit is due upon registration; the rest is payable on the first day.

The BrainBoost Festival is an opportunity for our community to get together to think about things, enjoy each other’s talents, and celebrate the wealth of knowledge accessible to us all.
All weekend, The HUB (3355 West Broadway) will be hosting Workshops, Discussions, Live Performances and Exhibitions. Talks are free, workshops are $5, and you are invited to peruse our exhibitions for free!
This weekend is open to the general public, and we invite you to bring a friend and come check out what The Hub has to offer.

Bringing Life to School is a fascinating tour through research in psychology, cognitive science and education. It’s a transformative workshop that will change the way you look at you and your children’s education. If you want school to be more interesting and inspiring, this workshop is for you! Parents and students should register and attend together.

The Magic Wand Session
If you had a magic wand, how would you change our schools? As a culture, we spend so much time thinking about what’s not working in our education system, we forget to see the good we bring, and change we can make.
The Magic Wand Session is a panel discussion that brings together educators from all walks of life to talk about what does work, what we would change if we could, and what we can do to “be the change we wish to see in the world.”

Sports Journalism for Kids

Scratch
Why waste your summer playing video games when you could be making video games instead!
This summer at BrainBoostTutoring Center, students will explore how video games and computer animations are made by learning all about Scratch. Scratch is a new programming language that makes it easy to create your own interactive stories, animations, games, music, and art.
Scratch is designed to help young people develop 21st century learning skills. As they create Scratch projects, students learn important mathematical and computational ideas, while also gaining a deeper understanding of the process of design, not to mention having a huge amount of fun!
Cost for a one-week course is $199.00

Hello Everyone!
We are thrilled to announce the first BrainBoost Festival, May 23-25th. The BrainBoost Festival is 3 days of workshops, talks, exhibitions and live performances. Everyone is invited to take workshops, experience talks and performances, and generally contribute as we spread the wealth of knowledge. It’s also super-cheap. Workshops are $5, talks are by donation,and the HUB will have free exhibits and installations all weekend long.
We’ll be announcing the line-up over the next two weeks, but the weekend will include talks like Bringing Life to School, Learn to Speak Doglish, Making Math Matter, and How to Create the Job You Want; workshops like Take Photos NOW! Musical Yoga, and Hands on Science; performances like Our live-thea-live-music-video spectacular, Open Mike Night and Poetry Slam; and an Art Gallery, as well as multiple Science and Art installations.
